Exploring STEM in Primary 1/2/3
Our Primary 1/2/3 have been enjoying exploring STEM through their new topic 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'.
Skittle Experiment - Our pupils submerged skittles in water and watched as the food colouring dissolved and spread within the water, creating our very own rainbow. This experiment taught our pupils critical skills of planning, prediction, hypothesising, problem solving and thinking outside the box. Stimulating questions surrounding variables such as water temperature, use of different solvents and repeating the investigation ensured the lesson was interactive.
Weather Forecasting - Our pupils developed their vocabulary and language through delivering the weather for areas across the North. Discussing different weather patterns, times of the day and locations ensured cross curricular links with the world around us. Watch our Barra Best!
Outdoor Puddle Play - Ditching their pencils and books for wet suits and wellies our pupils made a splash in our outdoor environment experimenting with food colouring and puddles. While predicting what would happen after adding the colouring, puddles also provide our children the opportunity to learn about movement, the natural world, and play.
