Saint Brigid’s Day
1st Feb 2023
The most famous St Brigid's Day tradition is the making of the Saint Brigid's Cross, a unique cross made from fresh rushes. The crosses are hung in people's homes on the first day of February, where they are believed to bring good luck and prevent fire and hunger. Teaching our children the art of making Saint Brigid’s crosses is a yearly tradition. The Primary 1-3 pupils made their crosses using colourful pipe cleaners, manipulating the pipe cleaners to make the distinct pattern at the centre of the cross. Primary 4-7 pupils used the traditional rushes to create beautiful crosses which they will hang at the entrance to their homes. Mary of the Gael Pray for us.
