Moneynick Pupils are All-Rounders
GAA Rounders was included in the original Gaelic Athletic Association Charter in 1884 as one of the four Gaelic Games the others being Gaelic Football, Hurling and Handball. It wasn’t until the 1950s, however, that any effort was made to organise the game when the Erin’s Own club in Antrim started a Rounders section and made efforts to promote the game throughout Ireland. The Senior Men’s All Ireland Championship has been run since 1976 with Erin’s Own Antrim claiming the Rounders Championship in 1977, 1978 and 1980.
In 1970, Erin's Own were again to the fore, supporting the launch of the Primary Schools Rounders Championships in the Toomebridge area of County Antrim and County Derry.
As the club celebrates their 100th Anniversary we acknowledge and congratulate Erin’s Own on their contribution to the promotion of Gaelic Games in their club and in our parish schools.
