Blackberry Picking

9th Sep 2024

Our Primary 6  and 7 pupils headed off on an Autumn walk with Mrs McConway. During the walk we focused on the blackberries lining the hedgerows. We used our senses to touch, feel and smell the fruit and imagined what it would have been like many years ago picking them as children walking home from school.
We discussed our native flora and identified many types of tree naming their leaf and fruit.

Upon returning we recited and discussed the poem ‘Blackberry Picking’ by Seamus Heaney. We talked about how he describe the Blackberries compared to our experience as well as his poetic devices.
