The concept of STEM learning is to combine science, technology, engineering and maths to create something that is greater than the sum of its individual parts

This year we have focused on building opportunities for our pupils to explore STEM by intertwining it with numerous curriculum topics, forging real-life learning situations, building our pupil’s knowledge and understanding of topics including electricity, hypothesis testing and the water cycle. These opportunities allow our pupils to see how scientific and mathematical concepts relate to their world around them.

Provision of hands-on and minds-on activities develop key competencies such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, good listening and communication skills.  There are opportunities to promote values that are needed in the world of further education and eventually work – respect, resilience, risk-taking and resourcefulness. As our pupils explored and investigated STEM-related connections to their world – their interests were sparked and we have witnessed their confidence, passion, knowledge and understanding flourish.
